RootWords
Pilot Program for Schools
RootWords is launching low-cost pilot programs in schools around the country to allow students access to our innovative way of teaching vocabulary. Are you an administrator or teacher interested in bringing RootWords to your school? Please email us at info@rootwords.io
We at RootWords are dedicated to helping students decode vocabulary to set them on a path of success in school and in life.
We are dedicated to helping students strengthen their vocabulary through an engaging, research-backed game (available on iPhone, Android, and the web [eg. Chromebook], with Clever integration). RootWords uses morphology and etymology to teach tier three words across various disciplines, making it easier for students to understand complex language by breaking down word parts. We use Greek and Latin roots as our starting point.
Our ongoing research, funded by the National Science Foundation, is exploring how this approach can save study time and improve vocabulary retention to help students through life. Our software is geared toward 6th - 10th graders and we are launching pilot programs in schools and school districts around the country. We believe our approach can really help students and teachers.
RootWords offers auxiliary instruction, meant to bolster existing curricula (eg. McGraw Hill) and our word database can be tailored to what educators are already teaching in any given school. It's the kind of tool that can be used in the classroom for 5-20 minutes at a time to make an impact.
Below are links to PDF files of a sample Memorandum of Understanding for a pilot program, as well as a sample Action Plan Agenda, for use after a pilot begins in a classroom.
